Is An Online MBA Right For Me?

Getting your MBA online has become a popular option for many people.   One of the biggest questions I’m often asked is whether pursuing a Masters in Business Administration through a distance learning program is the right thing to do for them?  In this article I thought I’d outline the most common reasons people choose to pursue this Masters Degree online instead of through a traditional bricks and mortar university.

 Flexibility

One of the great things about online degrees is that they allow you the flexibility of working when you want to.  If you have a full or part-time job or if you have other obligations that prevent you from attending classes on a fixed schedule then you can easily pursue your degree at night or whenever on your own time.   This is a great choice for any number of working professionals who desire the MBA to advance in their career but can’t afford to stop working for the typical 2 years needed for a full time in-class MBA program.

Additionally, such people such as stay-at-home mothers, those that travel or have erratic schedules are all great candidates for pursuing their MBA online.   Finally, because of the ability to take breaks during your coursework, the Online MBA is a great choice for someone that might not be able to pursue the degree straight through and might need a semester or more off before the continue.   Many programs allow you flexible time constraints that you might not have in a traditional program.

 Cost

Everyone knows that traditional MBA Programs can be quite costly.   It is not unusual to have tuition and expenses well over $100,000 at traditional in-class universities for the full degree Add in room and board and materials and books and you can end up with a final bill well into the six figures!

The beauty of pursuing your MBA online is that although you do have expensive iMBA programs from some of the leading schools available, you also have numerous lower cost alternatives that can still give you a fantastic education for a fraction of the cost.   Some leading online degree administrators such as The University of Phoenix or Devry’s Keller Program can have a total cost of less than $30,000 which is a great value for a full MBA.

 Availability

While we would all love to have illustrious Ivy League Degrees with straight A GPA’s, the truth is that the vast majority of those desiring an MBA do not.   This makes getting accepted into a traditional ‘Top Ten’ bricks and mortar MBA Program unlikely.   Fortunately, there are Online MBA Programs that have varying requirements for all possible students and what’s more these are still very high quality MBA Programs.   While most do require you have at least a Bachelor’s Degree, the admission requirements are considerably more flexible in online programs making a great education available to just about everyone.

 Conclusion

Clearly there are a wide variety of reasons why pursuing and Online MBA could be right for you.   By thinking through your own personal situation you be able to see if the trade-offs of not having in-person contact with other students and teachers outweigh the benefits.   Technology enables even those with the most stringent requirements the availability of a Masters in Business Administration to further their careers.   For more great information please visit OnlineMBA. me.

Why Choose An Internet Based Business?

Why Choose An Internet Based Business?

The internet now offers many exciting opportunities to start your own business. There are many advantages that an internet business offers over other business opportunities:

Work from home

Internet based businesses offer the opportunity to work from home. This can save money and valuable time from not having to commute daily to and from work. There is also the ease of being able to work flexible hours based around your own needs. This can be particularly advantageous for stay at home mums as it offers them the opportunity to earn an additional income from home. Many choose to work when their babies sleep or when their children are in school. There is no longer the expense of having to pay childminders and mums and dads who work from home can ensure that they are able to attend any school events without having to apply for time off work.

Low set up costs

On line businesses have low set up costs. With most internet opportunities all that are required are a computer and a telephone. There is also no need to outlay vast amounts of money to pay for an office or equipment. Most homes usually already have a desk, a computer and a telephone.

Global Market

One huge advantage that an internet business offers is that it has a global market it is also a recession proof business. Your business products or services can be marketed worldwide. Your business does not have the restrictive opening hours. This type of business can be making you money twenty four hours a day. Imagine making money even while you sleep!

Convenient marketing

The success of any business is reliant on good marketing. The internet offers a huge opportunity to promote your business effectively. There are many ways that you can achieve this via the internet. You firstly need to design a good website to promote yourself and your business.  This is crucial as it is an important means to advertise your brand and your business. You need to ensure that your website looks professional and that it is easy to navigate around as it needs to make a lasting impression and stand out from that of your competitors.

You can also write articles to promote your business ensuring to include keywords relevant to your business. This will make sure that traffic is driven to your website. You can also release press releases referring to any relevant developments within your business. Articles and press releases are particularly effective to promote an internet business as they are often free of charge.

With an internet business it is also possible to regularly monitor the success of your business by reviewing the marketing based on the conversion statistics. This will help you to build a successful business quicker as you will be able to eliminate anything that is not working for you based on the statistics.

An opportunity to share business ideas with others

An on line business also offers the opportunity to  communicate  with other like minded people to share business ideas and success stories with. This can be achieved on social networking sites or by e mail. Some internet businesses will also offer one to one coaching to reassure and guide you as you start your own business. This can help to reduce the feeling of being isolated and ease your anxiety as you build up your own business.

As with any business an internet based business will only be successful if you have the right commitment and mindset to make it succeed.  Like any other business it will involve hard work and dedication. It cannot be a case of “no work and all play”. You will get back from an internet based business what you put in. If you keep on top of things and work hard success will follow and you will go on to prosper beyond your dreams.

Administrative Resume

Administrative Resume

Administrative positions are found in many different types of companies. Administrative jobs consist of all types of work that is done to help run a company. It includes jobs such as: filing, receptionist, clerical, data entry, billing and collections, accounting, and office manager. Some administrative jobs require only a high school education while others, such as accountant, require specific degrees. The administrative role has changed over the past ten years. More companies have fewer employees, which mean many functions are included in each administrative position.

The best administrative resumes are those that show your capabilities, as well as your flexibility and willingness to take on new or additional responsibilities. Many small offices use one administrative person to perform multiple tasks. Those who get along well with others, can work independently, and have the ability to lead are good candidates for administrative positions. You’ll want to showcase your skills on your resume. Skills include typing, working with customers or clients, filing, and organizational skills. Employers are also looking for those who have knowledge and expertise in using software programs, such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Your administrative resume should focus on your many, varied skills and your expertise related to the type of job for which you’re applying. For example, if you are applying for an office manager’s position, you’ll want to show that you have experience in managing an office environment and that you understand what it takes to keep an office running smoothly. Often this involves knowing who to call when additional support is needed.  Administrative positions are primarily focused on abilities you’ve learned through previous employment. You can also use your life-based skills in an administrative position.  If you have been a stay-at-home mother, for example, use the skills needed to run a household as examples of your capabilities.

Many administrative positions require that you work directly with clients. You’ll need to show that you have the communication skills needed to do the job successfully. Many customer service positions require you to communicate with clients all day long, so emphasis should be placed on your verbal communication skills. More and more emphasis is now being placed on technical knowledge of computer skills. In fact, many small businesses use the office manager as the person who assists in keeping the computers and telephone systems functioning. If you have taken any special computer courses, be sure to list these accomplishments on your resume.

There are many firms wanting to fill administrative positions. Besides looking for a full time permanent position, you may be interested in part time or temporary work.  Temp agencies are a great source of administrative work. One of the advantages of working with a temp agency is that you can try out a position to see how you like it before you commit to it over the long term.

You are more likely to get more interviews and find a higher paying position if you have a professional resume and cover letter.

Group Coaching Assists Women in Making a Successful Transition from Stay-at-Home-Mom to Professional Career Woman

Group Coaching Assists Women in Making a Successful Transition from Stay-at-Home-Mom to Professional Career Woman

(PRWEB) December 13, 2001

Pasadena, CA – December 14, 2001 – More than 50% of all mothers decide to return to work sometime during the first year after giving birth. Others will wait until their child enters pre-school or kindergarten before heading back to the office. “The transition back to work can sometimes be challenging for women who have been home raising their children, regardless of the time they spent at home,” says Michele Dortch, owner of ClearVue Coaching, a practice that provides business and personal coaching services to women professionals and entrepreneurs.

Michele draws from her own experience when she states, “When women decide to take time off from their professional career to raise their children, they may not consider how difficult it can be to return to work when that time comes. They have a picture of what their life might look like once they begin working outside the home, but when the time comes to head back to the office, a myriad of unexpected events occur that require their attention away from their responsibilities at work. In order to successfully balance the rigor of work and home, women need a support structure that will make the transition smoother. This kind of support can come from their employer, spouse, family member or friend, but a new opportunity that is quickly gaining momentum is group coaching.”

Group coaching brings together a small group of like-minded women who share in a common experience – such as being a working mother. “Many of my clients opt for group coaching because they enjoy sharing their thoughts with others before putting them into action. They find they have a better chance of reaching their goals because of the constructive feedback they receive from women who share in their goals,” says Michele.

In her workshop “Takin’ it from the Playroom to the Boardroom” Michele offers participants an introduction to group coaching as they exchange useful tips and learn the secrets of successful working mothers. Michele explains, “I created this workshop so that mothers returning to work have an forum for expressing their concerns, ideas and goals as they take this big step back into the office.”

If you are interested in learning more about MicheleÂ’s new group coaching opportunity, please call her at (626) 398-7096 or email her at michele@clearvuecoaching.com. Her next introductory workshop will be held on January 12, 2002 at 2:00 pm (Pacific Standard Time).

Associates Degree in Medical Transcription from Kaplan University?

Question by FamousBlondeMom: Associates Degree in Medical Transcription from Kaplan University?
I am really considering going back to school. I’m a stay at home mom in Noblesville, IN who would like to do something online. Have you ever went to Kaplan University? How is it? What about the degree program? I’m interested in Medical Transcription and they do have an Associates degree that I can get it. I’m just nervous and feel that maybe this could be the wrong choice, but I can’t find many other schools offering Medical Transcription online. Any advice, suggestions, or concerns would be greatly appreciated.

I can say that some people I know are successful with degrees from Kaplan University. I know directors and manager of pretty large companies that have degrees for Kaplan and University of Phoenix. I guess it is all in what you do with your education when you finish. I also know people who have said Kaplan or any online college is not worth it but it depends on the person. You have to know how to apply yourself and work with what you have. Also if you are going to pursue an associates I would advice you to continue your education and get at least a Masters because these days an associates isn’t worth much of anything. You may have a chance at getting a better job and even getting your foot in the door at a doctors office but not any managers or directors positions for large corporations. Hope this helped you.

I am a stay at home mom and also a military spouse. I have completed my Associates and I’m looking for a school to finish up my Bachelor’s. I’m looking for a school that has an actual brick and mortar campus, but online programs as well. Looking to get my degree in either Finance or Business Administration with a specialty in Finance.

I’ve been searching for a good school but keep finding bad reviews of the ones I find. Does anyone have a college that they completed their degree at online and had a good experience with? Thanks!

Would an organization like Ameriprise allow someone to volunteer with them?

Question by Amanda W: Would an organization like Ameriprise allow someone to volunteer with them?
I have been a stay at home mother and full time student for two years. I want to return to work next year and would like to ease my way back into the workforce. I will graduate with my bachelors in Business Administration in the fall and begin my masters in Personal Financial Planning. To earn CFP certification three years of experience is required and I have none in the area. Would a company like Ameriprise even want to deal with a volunteer with no experience? What is a good way to get started. By the way, that only work experience I have is five years in the Army.
I am currently in Belgium, take classes online and will be staying in Virginia over the summer due to my husband’s deployment.

Go to your school’s Career Center and look for internships in your area. Or you can go to Ameriprise’s website and ask if they have internship programs.

Were you Army civil service or military? There are plenty of resources if you are a veteran. Go to www.military.com and select the Careers tab.

Good Luck!
