ABOUT ICON AIRCRAFT:

ICON Aircraft is a consumer sport plane manufacturer founded by Kirk Hawkins and Steen Strand while at Stanford University shortly after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) enacted regulation changes in 2004 that created the new sport flying category. Kirk is an engineer, former U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter pilot, and graduate of Stanford Business School. Steen, a former investment banker and Harvard graduate, holds a Masters in Engineering from Stanford in Product Design and is a serial entrepreneur. A privately funded company, ICON Aircraft’s base of operations is in Southern California, which is a hotbed for automotive design and aerospace engineering.

ABOUT FAA LIGHT SPORT AIRCRAFT & SPORT PILOT CLASSIFICATIONS:

In 2004, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) created a new classification of easy-to-fly and affordable two-person planes called Light Sport Aircraft that enable a new classification of Sport Pilots to fly in uncontrolled airspace during the daytime and in good weather. The Sport Pilot License focuses on the fundamentals of flying and requires a minimum of 20 hours of in-flight training, which is half the time and cost of a traditional Private Pilot License. The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) described the new rules as “the biggest change in aviation in 50 years.”

Stanford Social Innovation Review Touts Boot Camp for New Dads Program

xml:lang=”en” lang=”en” xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml”>

Stanford Social Innovation Review Touts Boot Camp for New Dads Program

Irvine, CA (PRWEB) December 2, 2004 -

In a recent article in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, Boot Camp For New Dads, a non-profit program offered at more than 180 hospitals, clinics, schools, military bases and churches across the U.S., was touted for social innovation and their accomplishment in reaching many people and communities across the nation. The Boot Camp For New Dads program brings “rookie” fathers-to-be together with “veteran” recent dads and their newborns in an effort to orient and teach parenting skills to new fathers.

The article, “Scaling Social Impact: Strategies for Spreading Social Innovations”, authored by J. Gregory Dees, a faculty director and adjunct professor at the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business; Beth Battle Anderson, a lecturer and managing director at the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship and Jane Wei-Skillern, assistant professor of business administration in Harvard Business School’s Social Enterprise Group, discusses how social innovation should be defined and its strategy outlined in order to achieve successful implementation in new areas.

The Boot Camp For New Dads program was used as an example of how a comprehensive program with a straightforward concept could be packaged and successfully replicated in 38 U.S. states (and counting) as well as Japan.

“Our comprehensive program enables hospitals and other community organizations to meet the needs of new fathers,” explained Greg Bishop, a Stanford MBA and founder of Boot Camp For New Dads. Bishop has had a lot of hands-on experience caring for babies with 12 siblings, four children of his own and numerous nieces and nephews. Bishop noticed that many men didn’t seem to enjoy custody of their babies and set out to determine why and to encourage change. After extensive research, he established Boot Camp For New Dads at Irvine Medical Center in California in 1990 and has volunteered as Head Coach ever since.

Bishop continued, “The Boot Camp For New Dads program package covers all the details – from site selection and program guidelines to the marketing materials that will help get the word out. We have a one-time license fee and provide Boot Camp training to the site coordinator and coaches. After the program has been implemented, all Boot Camp coaches receive ongoing support through the Boot Camp For New Dads website, newsletter, telephone and coaching net. We create a long-term partnership with the hospital or other organization so we can bring out the best in new dads in the community. We’re extremely pleased with the extent of its success.”

Badge of Honor

Boot Camp For New DadsÂ’ free program is available to all dads-to-be regardless of cultural, economic or age level. For more information about Boot Camp programs or to obtain a copy of Boot Camp For New DadsÂ’ book, Hit the Ground Crawling: The Ultimate Guide For New Fathers, contact (714) 838-9392 or visit http://www.newdads.com.

Boot Camp Beginnings

Boot Camp For New Dads is a unique program that brings “rookie” fathers-to-be together with “veteran” recent dads and their newborns. Having a child is an awesome gift, and joy, and an immense challenge. Boot Camp For New Dads is helping dads prepare for their mission. A Boot Camp For New Dads session is a single three-hour program often on the first Saturday morning of each month.

“I can’t imagine a more rewarding activity than helping new dads step up to the challenge,” rejoiced Bishop. “These guys are inspiring and should make all men proud, because once they understand how much they are needed, they deliver the goods.”

National media, including news segments on ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN as well as articles in Life, CHILD, Ladies Home Journal magazines, ReaderÂ’s Digest and others, have helped fuel the expansion of Boot Camp For New Dads to over 180 programs reaching thousands of new dads. The program is designed to bring a dad’s perspective to the 1.5 million men who become fathers each year across America.

Spanish and English

Determined to reach fathers everywhere, Boot Camp For New Dads has 12 Spanish language sites throughout the United States. The organization has created the only curriculum in Spanish for new fathers. Boot Camp For New Dads believes the key to improving the quality of life for many young children lies in helping fathers be capable and caring.

The Spanish version of the Boot Camp video helps support the facilitator and the “veterano” father in teaching the new dads to take care of the newborn baby and mother.

Should i get an MBA degree from a top college?

I am a junior in college and am contemplating whether or not i should try to get into a top mba program like berkeley, stanford, or ucla right after i graduate. Thus far, i have a 4.0 GPA, worked as a shift manager in a food restaurant, worked as an accountant, and have done clubs and community service. I will be taking my GMAT in my junior year. I am getting a degree in accounting so i know i can get a job after i graduate, but my goal is to own my business or run a successful company, and i know i could do that with an MBA degree. Someone told me that it will be extremely difficult to get into a top school, even though i do have a good gpa, but i dont have work experience. Is this true? If i work as an accountant for a couple of years will this increase my chances of getting in? I am so confused on what to do: Should i pursue my dream in getting an MBA right after i graduate or should i work and hope i could still get my MBA? Thanks for any advice or opinions!
If i do get a job as an accountant work for a 1-3 years, will top mba programs like accounting as experience or do they want another occupation?

Best Ways To Manage Your Time

Best Ways To Manage Your Time

The secret of most successful people is their ability to manage their time. We all get the same 24 hours. But it is how we schedule the hours to achieve our daily goals that makes all the difference. Most people are always saying that there is not enough time and that they are hours behind schedule. Pulling off the hectic lifestyles that most people have today requires careful planning and shrewd scheduling. You may think that you cannot possibly do it but it gets done by millions of people everyday.

Here are a few simple tips designed to get you on your way to being more organized and time efficient. Though there are no right and wrong ways to develop better time management skills. Start with setting daily short-term goals and long term goals. These goals should be time sensitive. Deadlines are set to make certain that you do not give in to procrastination. It also helps you to remain focused on the task at hand. Setting great goals may include a few lifestyle changes in order to get them completed. A good rule of thumb is to schedule your day with 45% toward work or studies, 25% for personal ventures and 30% for the family. Knowledge of oneself is invaluable in the effort to manage your time more effectively. Everybody has times of the day when they work at their peak efficiencies.

Knowing your energy highs and lows will help you to schedule harder tasks during peak times. Multi-tasking can save time and prevent you from overworking. If you are a student or commuter use the time wisely to study or finish up projects. Make a night out and include as many people as possible to cut down on the amount of time spent fraternizing. Quality over quantity is the order of the day. Looking busy vs. doing something meaningful is one of the ways people loose valuable amounts of time. Getting the proper rest and relaxation can seem like wasting time. But getting away from taxing tasks and allowing the brain an opportunity to rest will give you a better perspective on the problem and rejuvenate your mind and body. Avoid working in an area full of distractions. Delegate parts of the project when necessary. Realizing that you cannot do it alone may be one of the biggest steps you ever take.

There you have it. 7 ways to improve your time management skills. You can get as much done today as you would have put off for tomorrow.
