SetFocus Welcomes Distinguished Software Engineer Back to Its Teaching Staff and Advisory Board

Parsippany, NJ (PRWEB) October 3, 2008

SetFocus, a leading provider of .NET, SQL Server, Business Intelligence and SharePoint 2007 training, is proud to announce and welcome back to its training staff, Wayne Wilkerson, a distinguished software engineer and lecturer. This new addition of Wilkerson emphasizes SetFocus’ commitment to continuing the growth and expertise of its training staff operations and Advisory Board.

Most recently, Wilkerson worked with NASA and the Missile Defense Agency where, as IT Architect, he was instrumental in the migration of the NASA Launch Services legacy engineering application to VS2005, ASP 2.0 and SQL2005. While at the Kennedy Space Center, Wilkerson designed, developed and deployed a web-based dashboard application to integrate mission status information which was used to determine the launch readiness and report on overall mission status. He also was the technical lead for the NASA Expendable Launch Vehicle Information Systems (ELVIS) where applications were mission-oriented and covered all phases of launch support, including engineering, financials and management.

Prior to working with NASA, Wilkerson served as Senior IT Specialist and Archiect at IBM on the Enterprise Services for Microsoft Technologies team. During his tenure, he developed the reference infrastructure blueprint for a .NET 3-tier web model for a major financial services company.

Throughout his 25-year career, Wilkerson worked with, and consulted for, a variety of Fortune 500 companies, both domestically and internationally, in such diverse industries as financial services, insurance, chemical, energy, gaming and high tech. In addition to his Microsoft certifications in MCT, MCSE I, MCDBA (SQL 2000 & 2005) MCSD .Net, MCP SB, MCSA and MCAD.Net, Wilkerson also achieved certification as an Oracle9i Database Administrator Certified Associate.

Jonathan Lefkowitz, SetFocus President said, “We are pleased to have Wayne back as an integral part of our teaching staff. As a past SetFocus instructor, Wayne was highly regarded and received among the highest average evaluation scores in SetFocus history. His expertise in .NET framework, framework languages, database access and enterprise services, combined with his ability to connect and communicate, will ensure that our students get the best possible training experience.

Wilkerson is scheduled to begin teaching the .NET and SQL Master’s Program in October. “I’m looking forward to teaching again.” said Wilkerson. “The education that students get at SetFocus is far beyond what I’ve seen at any other school. They are not just going through the course. It’s the combination of building the projects, the teamwork and collaboration that give students a real sense for the work and the experience to be able to go out into the workforce.”

Migrating Data into SAP Business One

Migrating Data into SAP Business One

There are several powerful tools, developed by ISV channel and they are obviously pricy and require consulting budget. If you ask SAP B1 consultant on how we move our old accounting documents and master records into the new system, the answer likely to be that we will use Data Transfer Workbench. And what are the steps to prepare integration? They are first export data from legacy system, second save then in predefined CSV templates and the third pull these CSV files via Data Transfer Workbench. This way doesn’t look like a good option for large scale historical data import. However do not give up yet, we would like to give some highlights on how it really should be done with free tool, such as DTW:

1. ODBC connection option versus CSV or sometimes called Excel templates. It is available in Workbench. Let’s think about advantages in large scale historical data migration project. First of all you should expect migration to be tried in test environment with multiple attempts until you are satisfied with its quality and results. Second Excel is not designed to bring over millions of rows. Such migration volume should be done on the SQL platform. To our knowledge ODBC connection in WB is outside of the scope in basic SB1 certification classes. But let’s anyway try to open the hood of the application and see how it could be done

2. Create SQL View which replicates precisely the structure of CSV template, including the row of headers. You should be familiar with Union construction, where the first select statement is producing the headers and the second Select statement is pulling out the lines of data. We found some difficulties to create linked server on MS SQL Server 2008 64 bit platform. If you feel that it is also your issue, consider exporting your legacy documents into text file and then pull them into SQL via data import wizard or SSIS. When you have data in custom SQL tables, here is the time to create smart SQL View

3. Popular migration paths. We found out during our five plus years old SAP BO consulting practice that popular abandoned applications are Great Plains Accounting for DOS 9.5, 9.2, Great Plains Dynamics on Pervasive SQL Server 2000 version 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, QuickBooks, Peach Tree. We also figured out that exporting records from your legacy accounting might be quite challenging and this is why we would like to give you some directions. Let’s take a look at mentioned applications one by one

4. Great Plains DOS, Windows or Mac versions. This is archaic Great Plains, not Dynamics. The database platform is Btrieve, however modern installs are mostly found on Pervasive SQL 2000 Server and single user workstation. In order to connect to Btrieve/Pervasive via ODBC you need to produce DDF files. The procedure is described in ODBC manual, available on GPA installation CD in PDF format. We recommend Pervasive Control Center, where you can issue Select statement to save results into text file. The challenge here is associated with the fact that GPA stores several tables in the same Btrieve file. This is why when you are looking at Select statement results you may find the rows filled with unknown characters. If you feel comfortable to work with GPA users to design the filter in SQL View to just get specific table results – great. Otherwise you need help from experienced consultant

5. Great Plains Dynamics on Pervasive SQL 2000. Table structure could be analyzed via user interface: Tools -> Resource Descriptions -> Tables. As it is Pervasive/Btrieve database you will need DDF (Data Definition File) to be available for connection either in Pervasive SQL Control Center or via ODBC compliant tools, such as probably Microsoft Access or SQL Linked Server

6. QuickBooks. As DB platform is proprietary we recommend printing reports into text files and then begin cleansing from there. Similar approach is recommended for Peach Tree and MYOB. Again good strategy is to import the reports into custom SQL tables and then build SQL View to weed out non structured rows, usually page number, report header, blank lines, notes

7. The author is enthusiast of various data import projects. He participated in migrations to Dynamics GP, AX, SL, SAP B1. You should understand the risks and advantages to get historical data migrated. If you are small company with limited budget, consider just having master records and GL beginning balances entered. In this scenario you keep your old accounting somewhere on the corner for data inquiry only in case if old-good-days but now forgotten customer calls. Author also believe in the idea that if you find this article via Google, Yahoo or MSN search chances are high that real expert is found. Internet is the market place and the place to be the arena of competitors. We do our community service job by publishing technical articles

Andrew Karasev is Great Plains Certified Master, MVP, help@efaru.com 1-866-304-3265, 1-269-605-4904. He is also the initiator of eFaru project http://www.efaru.com and founder of Alba Spectrum information space

Version update for mid-market Corporate ERP system is often micro project.  If you are large company with the number of ERP and Accounting users more than twenty five – we recommend you to consider it as mid-size project with several phases (first would be preparation, second test update and then production update and go live).  Now we go into the technical area, as update is always related to such terminologies as Service Packs, Upgrade Path (one or more steps), customization code revision (in Dexterity, eConnect, VBA scripts in Integration Manager or Modifier), FRx, modified reports (in Report Writer), Extender.  We recently brought customer all the way from 8.0 to 2010 via one intermediate step on version 10.0.  Here are the discoveries:

1. 8.0 to 10.0 Service Pack 5.  This process was smooth and we cannot complain about the quality of GP 10.0 DVD with integrated SP5.  If you are Great Plains long term practicing consultant and you remember how update was happening back in late 1990th and earlier 2000th (to versions 7.6, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, plus migrations from Intellisol APOP, migration tool from Pervasive SQL 2000 or Ctree to SQL Server based version), we probably should admit that version 10.0 is more stable and it handles updates as it should

2. 10.0 Service Pack 5 to 2010 SP1.  The same picture, no problems at all with DB side conversion

3. Test Phase.  Client made a decision just to compare reports, such as FRx, Smart Lists, AP Checks, SOP Invoices (we have more than twenty companies and reports are loaded from the packages into production Reports.dic individually for each company).  Surprisingly all the packages from version 8.0 (SOP Blank and Long Invoice forms) showed up to be compatible with 2010/11.0

4. 1099 forms and numbers for the year 2010.  This was part of the testing.  And surprisingly some of the vendors were not shown on the 1099 vendor list report (as compared to the same report from version 8.0).  AP Utilities to Reconcile Vendor (1099 only) printed 1099 Update (Miscellaneous/7 Nonemployee Compensation), but it didn’t update 1099 inquiry for the same vendor (and table PM00204 was not updated, still showing zero for the month, where Vendor was paid in 1099 qualified transaction).  At this point we believe that it is on the list of issues for the future service pack release

5. FRx on 64 bit Windows 2008 Server (both Sysdata and client application).  Installation is a bit misleading, as it generates couple of error messages (please, not that Microsoft Business Solutions doesn’t support FRx on 64 bit OS platform).  We were able to deploy FRx by exporting and importing Specification Set and importing it back into clean FRx Sysdata.  In this scenario we had to recreate all the companies manually (good help is Cloning mechanism in FRx).  Importing was performed to the Sysdata on FRx Service Pack 10 (be sure that you have to first apply SP9, and only then SP 10 or 11).  At that point FRx was functional pulling data from SQL Server 2008 based GP, customer printed reasonable set of P&L, Balance Sheet reports and compared them to 8.0 based one – everything was matching

6. Integration Manager workstation, where eConnect was required.  Customer wanted to control eConnect install via Domain Administrator account.  By whatever reason we were not able to install eConnect on client 32 bit Windows XP computer with its credential (getting error message ‘Unable to Add user to SQL’).  Numerous posts recommend create clean new account in active directory and give it Domain Admin rights.  Such an account was created and we were able to load eConnect on user workstation and subsequently install IM.  Please, note, that in our case we had to do IM.MDB conversion and then open each eConnect based integration and update target Server and Database in Destination Properties.  This is understandable, as eConnect option in IM 8.0 required direct SQL login/password and DB name (in version 10.0 eConnect client was realized in the form of COM+ object component, in 2010 it is .Net assembly)

7. Microsoft Management Reporter.  The plan was to try forced conversion from FRx to MMR and go live on the Reporter.  Domain Administrator wanted to control MMR, having it run under domain administrator account.  Installation on the server went OK (we marked the checkbox open 4712 port on Windows 2008 firewall and this option lets us to load MMR client on the user computers).  With Management Reporter however we got several issues.  First one was related to the problem with domain administrator account (it looks like you are in better chance when you are using another account, specially created for MMR in active directory and included into Domain Admin group).  Second issue we got was Budgets – it looks like MMR (with FP1 applied) doesn’t like Budget columns in Column Layout.  The third issue – in Row Format in FRx, the migration wizard reported no problem, however when opening Row Format in MMR it markes errors on specific rows, where you do summary on the numerated rows.  If exact numerated row doesn’t exist, you have to adjust the Total (from row N to row M – be sure that both rows: N and M exists, and if not change the from and to numbers)

8. MMR Queue Reports deletion problem.  It looks like we got this issue due to the fact that we tried to use Domain Administrator as MR Service credentials.   However, trying to fix this problem we found numerous posts in the internet, where consultants are seeking for help, trying to clear the queue.  We were able to do this in SSMS by issuing the following command:

use ManagementReporter

delete Repository where Type=10

It did the job by allowing us to send new reports to the queue, where they find themselves in the same limbo.  So, the issue is likely to be in incorrect MMR Security setup

9. Have fun in your Dynamics GP version upgrade!  We are available to help you out, especially in the case of really old version of Great Plains on Pervasive SQL 2000/Ctree: 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 4.0; or even Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows or Mac: 9.5, 9.2, 9.1.  We are also comfortable to do Dexterity customization re-haul and code revision

Great Plains Dynamics Gp Installation Faq

Great Plains Dynamics Gp Installation Faq

In order to be prepared to install on your own or select Great Plains implementation consultant, you should be familiar with GP database platform and technology. In early XXI Century, Great Plains Software and respectively Great Plains eEnterprise and Dynamics ERP was acquired by Microsoft. Microsoft formed Microsoft Great Plains Business Solutions with head office in Fargo, ND, later on renamed into Microsoft Business Solutions, and finally in September 2005 into Microsoft Dynamics subdivision. Since the time of Microsoft acquisition, Great Plains was on the way of phasing out non-Microsoft DB platforms, such as Pervasive SQL 2000 (former Btrieve) and Ctree/Faircom – final version supporting these non-Microsoft databases was Microsoft Great Plains Professional and Standard 7.5. For you this means that you should be very comfortable in supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft SQL Server (2005 or 2000) in your organization, as GP is available exclusively on MS SQL Server. Let’s come down to the details bullets:

1. Microsoft Dexterity IDE and scripting language of GP. Former Great Plains Dexterity, currently Microsoft Dynamics GP Dex is the hearth of GP development and scripting. Dex traces are now hidden to certain extent, however you could see it in DEX_ROW_ID column in each table, Dynamics.dic, Dex.ini and Dynamics.exe architectures

2. GP Utilities. When you finish files copy on your workstation or the MS Windows Server, installation process launches Dex Utilities to begin Dynamics database loading. Dex Utils create the database itself, tables, atomic stored procedures, views, other DB components, then they load eConnect encrypted stored procedures. Great Plains has modular structure, and historically vanilla installation of GP includes multiple modules, normally 12 for version 10.0

3. Accounts structure. Here you need to understand that GP requires you to decide on how many segments and maximum account length of your GL accounts. This decision should be communicated to Great Plains Utilities in the Dynamics DB installation time. If you plan to familiarize yourself with GP (if you are installing if from MSDN evaluation DC, foe example), we recommend you to have 3 segments with the following lengths: 3, 4, 2 respectively

4. Review the installation. We recommend you to review Dynamics.set file and see which modules are really installed, you should not install additional modules, if you do not have them in your ERP set, examples could be Manufacturing, Project Accounting, etc. If you are just evaluating GP you can disregard this recommendation, however in production MRP environment, you should install only the modules you need, as all the other modules will try to validate themselves and force you to do their setup

5. Old version update. If you need GP upgrade, then if you are on archaic version, where your DB is not MS SQL Server, then you will need to undergo migration process – migration tool does this job. Migration tool uses link to Pervasive SQL or Ctree and ODBC connection to Microsoft SQL Server to transfer your GP tables. If you are on MS SQL Server, then you need to check with your Microsoft Business Solution VAR on the upgrade path, especially if you are two or more versions behind. Current version is 10.0 and in order to upgrade from version 8.0 or 9.0 you must apply GP 10.0 Service Pack 1 or the newer as it will be available

6. Installation in Citrix environment. In terminal server you more likely would like to suppress Microsoft Office stack of products integration, including Microsoft Outlook. Please review table SY08100 in Dynamics database.

7. Great Plains Customization Upgrade. Here you will need professional Dexterity programmer help in reviewing your alternative business logic forms and scripts and performing the upgrade job

8. Great Plains Integration upgrade. Here you should find out which integrating tool you deploy. In the case of Integration Manager or IM, you should now that in versions 9.0 and 10.0 you have now eConnect IM connectors for such popular integration destinations, as SOP transactions, POP transactions, customers, shipping methods, etc. In order to get the performance advantages of new eConnect connectors you will have to reassemble IM integrations. eConnect doesn’t require GP workstation be running behind the scenes, however each integration targets specific GP company, which is not the case for old OLE integrations

9. Additional Considerations. These might be self apparent, however we saw the problems related to them. So, please be sure that you have Server admin right if you are installing server side and user workstation admin rights if you are installing user part

10. Vista User Workstation installation. Please, review latest technical articles for Vista and Microsoft Dynamics GP, as at this time, January 2008 Vista has certain patches and assumptions, when you install Great Plains there

SAP Business One Implementation Recovery

SAP Business One Implementation Recovery

There might be situations when your small business ERP implementation was screwed and now you feel yourself in limbo.  Well, now it is probably the time to look for second opinion.  We would like to describe some typical scenarios when you get your Corporate ERP implementation in danger.  Try to match them with your case and see how situation could be ruled out.  We’ll use some technical terms, meaning that this paper should be reasonably friendly to business owner as well as information technology department folks:

1. Data Conversion.  When you approach a reseller who is local to your headquarters – these people would probably take all leads coming their way, assuming that they will learn new features as project progresses.  And this is normal way in IT consulting.  Local partners typically are positioned to do generic CPA style implementation with modest data conversion and custom programming.  If you do not want to do your homework and when discussing data migration requirements simply order “bring over all my legacy accounting data” and your prospective consultant politely agrees – this might be the cause of the future failure.  Think about data massage and migration as something that requires rationing.  Every accounting system is different and in order to bring over transaction history you either have to have migration tool, or do it via custom coding or deploying integration module.  In the case of SB1 it is Data Transfer Workbench.  When SAP BO consultant gets her or his certification training they have a lab on creating CSV files (often referred as Excel templates).  These templates cover most of the master records and transactions, but filling them up with all your historical data requires consulting time and you should expect several attempts to bring you over to final production conversion.  If you feel that your initial migration crosses all the possible budgets, we recommend you to change your data conversion requirements.  Consider bringing over master records (business partners with addresses and contacts, inventory items, GL accounts) and General Ledger beginning balances.  The rest you could set up directly via user interface

2. Customization.  When you see sales presentation on this small business ERP and MRP you might get a feeling that it is modification friendly and no coding is required to reshape its user interface and business logic.  There is a culture of “sales pitches”, where something that is available is sold in the nicest wrapper.  It is true that customization could be done directly in user interface.  For example you can add custom tables and they are visible to the user.  You can also add fields to existing tables – add fields to Sale Invoice Line.  We agree with these statements, but how about animating these custom tables and extended fields to the existing files?  Yes, all that should be done in programing in such customization tools as Software Development Kit, DI Server.  Even if your SAP B1 application hosts its databases in Microsoft SQL Server and some of the programmers might think that they should be able to do coding in SQL Stored Procedures – it is not recommended.  There is Watch Dog utility which is supposed to observe if somebody is trying to update tables directly via SQL and report the violation

3. SDK Programming and Performance Issues.  This ERP system deploys three tiers architecture, where programming should respect the model.  Not every SAP Business One VAR has SDK certifications and programming requires expertise.  If you are taking customization route, we recommend you to check if your reseller is certified to program SDK.  User interface altering might be funny, but it requires revision when you are upgrading to the new version of the software.  In our experience custom modules where performance doesn’t meet expected standards are popular implementation failure cases

Dynamics GP Integration: Great Plains Technology Partner Notes

Dynamics GP Integration: Great Plains Technology Partner Notes

If you have Microsoft Dynamics GP implemented in your organization and you plan to integrate GP ERP and MRP modules with your other IT systems: ecommerce, Sales Ordering, CRM, EDI Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, you should get initial introduction to Dynamics GP Integration Tools: Integration Manager, eConnect, Dexterity, Import Utility, direct SQL Scripting.  In this article we will not be covering Dynamics GP ISV third party add-ons.  It might look a bit technical to IT director, and at the same time you, as programmer may expect more technical details, as we are trying to keep balance:

1. Integration Manager.  This tool is very friendly to GP User, and if this is your role, plus you are familiar with GP master documents and transactions types, you should try to build simple integration, use existing sample integrations as a reference and study materials.  If you are on GP version 10.0, IM has two types of Connectors: traditional OLE based (require login to the GP workstation as OLE Server and launching IM from there – integration works with the current company) and eConnect (they are built upon eConnect technology stack, should be a way faster, do not require GP workstation, however you will need special procedure to install eConnect connectors, especially Admin domain account or your GP local server Admin account; if by whatever reason you change eConnect Account Password, please change it in also in Administrative Tools -> Component Services -> COM+ Applications – > Properties – > Identity – this is one of the most asked questions).  If you think about IM as very simple and pretty restricted tool, we would like to give you advanced scenario.  Consider the situation, when you have legacy Sales Order Management System in Oracle, and you need to move Sales Orders and New Customers to GP SOP module.  In this case, consider to create MS SQL Server Linked Server to Oracle, and SQL Heterogeneous View, which will pull data from Oracle and will check the Invoice existence in SOP10100 (Work SOP Docs) or SOP30200 (Historical SOP Docs).  This view should allow you to create ongoing integration of Customer Orders to GP. You can schedule integration with Windows Scheduling custom applications, available for moderate fee on Software market, or simply have GP IM user to launch integration every day or every few hours.  Please, check with your Dynamics GP VAR on IM module license

2. eConnect.  This tool is open for Microsoft Visual Studio C#, VB or other .Net programming language software developer.  Initially it was dedicated to ecommerce programmers to open Great Plains as back office accounting.  We recommend you to look at eConnect if your current GP version is 10.0 or 9.0.  If you are on earlier version: 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 4.0, 3.2, Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows or Mac, please consider upgrade to version 10.0 or if you are on Great Plains Dynamics, consider deploying either Integration Manager, Import Utility, Dexterity or direct SQL Insert.  eConnect is simple in inclusion into MS Visual Studio project as Library, and then you should be able to program by examples, provided in eConnect SDK.  In fact in Integration Manager 10.0 most of the objects are available in eConnect connector version, so you can try IM, however eConnect allows you to have more control over integration, and especially important feature is real time integration option, where you could call eConnect methods upon ecommerce invoice and payment placement event

3. Dexterity.  It is native Great Plains development environment, and it has access to all the GP Objects, including master records, work, open and historical transactions, plus custom Dexterity add-ons created tables, fields, forms and windows.  You should not immediately consider to drop IM and eConnect as no longer feasible integration options, as Dex has some drawbacks – it is not open source programming language, it requires relatively long programming learning curve.  You may consider to get Dynamics GP Dexterity training for your IT programmers, if you are facing huge Great Plains implementation with numerous customizations and existing logic modifications, especially when you work for large organization with challenging ecommerce, logistics, warehouse management.  For the rest of us, we recommend outsourcing Dexterity integration programming to Dynamics GP ISV with Dex software development factories.  One of the good examples of Dex custom add-ons is Alba Spectrum Posting Server or Autopost, allowing you to break through eConnect limitations on inability to post Batches and individual transactions

4. Import Utility.  This tool is in our opinion rather archaic and useful if you are on Ctree or Pervasive SQL 2000.  Since Dynamics GP 8.0 the only supported DB Platform is Microsoft SQL Server: MS SQL 2000 for 8.0, 9.0 and 10.0, MS SQL 2005 for 9.0, 10.0, MS SQL 2008 for 10.0.  We recommend you direct SQL insert for SQL Server based installations.  IU doesn’t validate GP business logic and such is similar in its potential harm to business logic inconsistency as direct SQL insert statement

5. Direct SQL Scripting.  Please, try not to be too enthusiastic about feeding data into Great Plains via SQL Query Analyzer.  Consider the fact that eConnect is written in SQL Server encrypted stored procedures and likely the intended SQL feeding is already covered in one of its Procedures.  Consider to invest some time in eConnect training, as if you do integration in eConnect libraries, versus custom SQL scripting – business logic validation should not be an issue, as eConnect is replicating Dexterity business logic.  If these advises are not applicable to you, please go ahead with SQL scripting.  Dynamics GP Tables structure could be found in GP SDK (install from CD#2), plus here: Dynamics GP -> Setup-> Resource Description -> Tables.  We strongly recommend to be very conservative and try your integration first in the test company or in Fabrikam Lesson Company – here try to enter similar transactions in GP user interface and then review how records were recorded in the tables and finally then begin your coding

6. Dynamics GP Integration in International environment.  Please note that GP is generally localized and supported in English speaking countries: USA, Canada (including French Quebec version), UK, Australia, South Africa, Oceania, New Zealand, India, Pakistan or English Business Specking South East Asia, plus it is translated and partially localized for Spanish specking Latin America.  GP has potential to be translated to non-Unicode compliant languages: Russian, Lithuanian, German, Polish, Czech, Serbian, Turkish, etc.  However we recommend you to consider ERP tax code compliance question.  In some international situations SAP Business One with GL or transactions integrations to Dynamics GP might be better option, especially if SB1 is localized for your country

7. Alternatives to Dynamics GP Great Plains.  If you feel that GP is too expensive, consider Microsoft Small Business Accounting or if this is too simple, consider SAP Business One.  If you believe that GP is too poor in its functionality, consider switching to next level in Microsoft Dynamics ERP products hierarchy – AX, formerly known as Axapta

Burlington, MA (Vocus) January 14, 2010

expressor software, the leader in semantic data integration, today announced the company closed 2009 with a strong fourth quarter that included four new licensing transactions, the introduction of its new “expressor expressway” methodology and aggressive expansion into the small-to-medium business (SMB) market served by Microsoft SQL Server during 2010.

“expressor continues to gain momentum by adding new customers, building pipeline, expanding our partner network and adding top-notch talent to our team,” said Bob Potter, CEO and co-founder, expressor software. “From a strategic standpoint, the enthusiastic response we received from Microsoft SSIS users at the PASS Summit and in subsequent customer and prospect feedback during Q4 confirmed we have a significant opportunity in this large and growing SMB market.”

“I am pleased that expressor closed 2009 with another good quarter from a financial perspective, without any significant improvement in the economy,” added Melinda Smith, CFO, expressor software. “Bookings and pipeline continued to grow, and we once again exceeded our cash flow and expense targets to position expressor for a very successful 2010 fiscal year.”

Sales and Marketing Momentum

expressor signed new licensing transactions in Q4 with Baseline Management, Integrated DNA, STi Prepaid and a major US health benefits company.

“We are very pleased with the level of activity and interest we are seeing in expressor with new prospects and throughout our existing customer base,” said Biswa Bhattacharya, founder and CEO of Acxius Strategic Consulting, an expressor reseller and system integrator partner. “We expect that our successful deployment of expressor at a major US health benefits company early in 2010 will be the first of many during this year and beyond.”

In addition to exhibiting at the PASS Summit, expressor invested in a number of complementary marketing programs in Q4 designed to build awareness and demand in the SSIS community, including sponsoring several SQL Saturday user group training events scheduled in Q1 2010 as well as a webinar to be conducted with SQL Server Magazine in March.

Registrations for the free expressor eval edition topped 100 in Q4, more than triple the number in the previous quarter. The eval edition is proving a popular method for prospective customers to take expressor for a 30-day “test drive.”

New Methodology

In Q4, expressor signed an agreement with its systems integrator partner Emunio to jointly develop a comprehensive methodology for the design, development, deployment and management of expressor applications – called “expressway.” Emunio is the UK’s leading data integration consultancy, and expressway is substantially based on the best practices Emunio developed during nearly a decade of experience delivering large-scale, complex and highly successful data integration projects for a large range of clients. expressor expressway will become available in Q1 2010 and will be free of charge for expressor system users.

New Partners

expressor expanded its partner program in Q4 with the addition of two new companies:

Datalytica – a next-generation technology solutions provider for organizations in the retail, finance, healthcare and gaming and hospitality industries, which is using expressor to deliver end-to-end business and marketing intelligence solutions.

DataDirect – the world leader in data connectivity and expressor software signed a technology partnership to embed DataDirect’s high-performance, standards-based (ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, OLE DB) data connectivity drivers into the upcoming release 2.2 of the expressor semantic data integration system.

Key Hires

expressor software strengthened its sales team in Q4 with the addition of data integration expert Hugo Sheng, who joined the company as a director of field engineering, based in Houston. Hugo has more than a dozen years’ experience in data integration, having served most recently as worldwide technical sales operations manager for IBM’s InfoSphere group. He also worked at Torrent Systems, which was first acquired by Ascential Software in 2001 and then IBM in 2005. Hugo holds a BS degree in electrical engineering from the University of Houston and an MBA from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University.
