University of Colorado – Colorado Springs MBA.?

Question by gangolee: University of Colorado – Colorado Springs MBA.?
I am ready to take the next step in my professional life and have been looking into getting an MBA in operations management. Because I live in Colorado, one of the schools I have been looking at is the University of CO – Colorado Springs. I would appreciate honest insight as to the quality of the program, it’s recognition outside the rockies (for folks who have moved outside of CO), how good the alumni network is and how well organized and helpful their career service is. In summary, do I get a bang for my buck or should I be looking elsewhere.

Best answer:

Answer by PE2008
If you really want to do Operations Management, you should consider a Master’s in Technology Management rather than an MBA.

The general advice about MBAs is that only MBAs from Top Tier schools pay off for full-time study. MBAs from second tier AACSB-accredited schools MAY pay off if taken part-time and the employer covers tuition. There is good research that otherwise MBAs do not result in higher lifetime earnings. There are far too many mediocre students attending mediocre MBA schools.

is Malaspina University College the best for internataional students?

Question by Arman I: is Malaspina University College the best for internataional students?
MBA, MsIB

Answer by redrumkev911
I feel the best international school is Thunderbird, which is ranked #1 in the world.

They have MBA programs as well as the Masters in IB, which can be done online, requiring only a few residencies across the globe. I know that some of the largest companies recruit heavily from this school and overall, the alumni network is great for getting answers to questions, career help and more!

Good luck!

University of Phoenix Establishes Quarterly Scholarship Program with Ongoing Donation from Pride Printing

(PRWEB) June 27, 2003

Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) June 24, 2003 — Pride Printing today announced the first of a series of donations to the University of Phoenix Alumni Network, which will result in scholarships for university students. The initial donation, in the amount of $ 15,879.65, allows the Alumni Network to establish a new scholarship program providing a maximum of $ 2,500 per student for eight to 13 students each academic quarter.

Continuation of planned periodic contributions will make Pride Printing the second largest University of Phoenix scholarship sponsor.

“We’re extremely happy with Pride Printing’s commitment to give back to our student population,” said Carrie C. Fries, national director of the Alumni Network. “The donation is of great value educationally because we target demographics consisting of working individuals with an average age of 34, and few scholarships are available for these adult learners. One goal of the Alumni Network is to increase our abilities to support our students through scholarship funds.”

Jim Bennitt, CEO of Pride Printing, originated the series of donations in February 2003 based on tiered percentages of printing services sold to the University of Phoenix.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to be partners with the University of Phoenix and to be in a position to help students get ahead in their personal and professional lives,” stated Bennitt, who founded the full-service, progressive printing company in 1992.

The Alumni Network will offer two business, one marketing and one general scholarship category. The scholarships for the fall 2003 quarter apply to students in marketing-related studies. Applicants must be students of the University of Phoenix or the University of Phoenix Online.

Q&A: Any thoughts on the Ph.D. program in Public Affairs from the University Of Central Florida?

Question by cshafer582: Any thoughts on the Ph.D. program in Public Affairs from the University Of Central Florida?
I am thinking of going back to school for my Ph.D. in Public Affairs. I like the program at the University of Central Florida, and was wondering if anyone has any information or thoughts on the program? Also, my educational background is in business (BS in International Business, and an MBA in Healthcare Admin.), but I have a ton of interest in going into a Health Policy degree.

Any help is much appreciated!

I don’t know about that program, but I would check the alumni network before you consider applying. This type of program relies heavily on alumni support and involvement for internships, placement, donations etc. An active and involved alumni means that the program is serving the students as they go into the work world. Try talking to some alumni, if they have that type of matching service.

how is the recruiting for finance major undergraduates at UIC’s college of business administration?

Question by hjm16u: how is the recruiting for finance major undergraduates at UIC’s college of business administration?
I am planning to major in finance, and was wondering how the recruiting was at UIC compared to Depaul and other Midwest schools like Indiana University at bloomington, Purdue, etc. If some one could inform me on this it would be great..

Best answer:

Answer by DR
It depends. Depaul has a stronger alumni network; but, UIC is harder to get into. (Average Depaul GMAT is around 580; average for UIC is around 610.) Also, the UIC finance department has in the past been ranked in the top 20s or 30s.

Two years ago, recruiters didn’t know much about UIC. I suspect that is changing. Also, recruiters historically didn’t need to come to UIC because many UIC undergraduates arranged internships which became full-time jobs. In this job market, that has insulated UIC students from some of the unease employers have hiring someone unknown.

Also think about where the schools will be in ten years. I suspect UIC’s reputation will continue to improve — so the prestige of your degree will also improve.

How important is the notability of a university?

Question by thwydwn: How important is the notability of a university?
The University I attend has a good program for my major but lately I’ve been considering transferring to another school.

The University I am considering also has a good(no better or worse than my current univer.) program for my major but is more renown than the school I attend now. It would also cost a good deal more than the school I attend now.

I’m just wondering how important is the name of the school you receive your diploma from? How does it affect future career goals?

Best answer:

Answer by sbjohns
Are you planning to use your alumni network to find a job, or connections to the school in any way? Even then, your other school could probably help you. The notoriety of a school only matters when the school has no credibility… or if you’re planning on working in NYC or DC.

Does school name really mean that much with a mba?

Question by jeremy w: Does school name really mean that much with a mba?
I am thinking about going to Arizona State University for their mba program. Ive already applied and everything looks good, but I see so many more mba programs that are cheaper. Does it really make a difference where your mba degree comes from, what are some good schools that I could check out in addition to ASU, and is ASU really known for their mba program with the w.p. carey school of business or is that just what they say to get students.

Best answer:

Answer by A Voice Crying in the Wilderness
Where the MBA comes from makes a huge difference. You have the top ten MBA Programs, and then every where else. As far as ASU, if you plan on working in arizona I would say that is the best school for you. The important thing about an MBA is really not so much what you learn but the networking you do, who you meet. Carey has a strong alumni network in arizona so it would be a good school. But if you could go to a top ten program such as sloan, wharton, hbs, chicago gsb, stanford, it makes all the difference.

What type of prior work experience do employers of an MBA Graduate look for? ?

Question by Christa: What type of prior work experience do employers of an MBA Graduate look for? ?
What type of prior work experience do employers of an MBA Graduate look for?

Also, any tips or food for thought on entering an MBA program? I have a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts with a Psychology Minor and am looking to switch up/advance my career; I need to go back and take some required Undergraduate courses before I apply to the Graduate program.

Advice would be greatly appreciated and more than helpful! Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Anna P
Any good MBA program will want to see 2-5 years of work experience before applying to the program–you add more to the program and you get more out of the program. You don’t need any courses beforehand, except for math through calculus for most programs. I would have taken accounting if I had it to do over. Look for a good alumni network where alumni are involved in providing internships and helping with placement–half the value of an MBA is in the alumni network.
