Q&A: Need to know alot about Dubai?

Question by Aamer Khan: Need to know alot about Dubai?
I want to move to Dubai so is there anyone who can advice me wot things should I be catering and keeping in mind specially from the job and benefits point of view. By the way I am from Pakistan and have done MBA in Marketing and having 3 years job experience of Marketing Manager right here in Pakistan and now I want to get to some other place. can anyone help me regarding settling up in Dubai please?

Best answer:

Answer by Arnie
Hi,
the hardest part will be to find a job at all. As a Pakistani, you are in need of a visit visa which you can probably arrange from Pakistan. It allows you 60 days aof stay with the possibility of another 30 days of extension. Within these 90 days you’ve got to find a job, otherwise you have to leave.
Finding a job is not so easy, especially not for Indians, Pakistanis, Iranians etc. because there are many of you already here. Anyway, there is a certain demand so you might have some luck. Have a look at www.gulf-news.com and check out their classified section for job offers.
Next thing is the salary. Cost of living (especially housing) are very very high in Dubai. Inexpensive accomodation is hard to find in Dubai, many people are moving out to the neighboring emirates of Sharjah or Ajman and as a result have to commute every day, sometimes easily one or two hours each way because of terrible traffic congestion.
So you need to negotiate a salary that is high enough to make a decent living over here plus put something on the side (that is, after all, why you want to come here I suppose).
If you can afford it, it would be best if you come here for a few weeks and check the place out. Once you are settled, Dubai isn’t bad for living so it is well worth a try. Just be aware that there are some downsides as well (housing, working hours 48 hrs per week, traffic etc.).
Wish you good luck.

what are some suggestions to write as an indivual giving a recommendation to a former employee for b-school of?

Question by lynnt004: what are some suggestions to write as an indivual giving a recommendation to a former employee for b-school of?
areas they could exhibit growth and improvement that wont sound harsh or put them in a negative light?

Best answer:

Answer by Biznitch
A lot of time when I do recommendations I actually make the student answer these questions themselves, then incorporate them into the recommendation. I have a standard form, which includes that question:

1) What are your strengths
2) What are some areas you are proud of growth in?
3) What are some of your goals for the future?
4) How have you grown over the last three years?
5) What are you most proud of?

I also ask for a resume, but I will specifically ask those questions of the individual. Sometimes it’s good, forces them to reflect on the issue at hand.

I supervisor a lot of entry level individuals so I have to write a ton. I figured that by giving them a form or asking them those questions, it provides truthful responses that I can re-word and provide insight regarding.
